Marathon

Today one week has passed since my first marathon. For days I refused to write this post, because after all these months of dreaming and training (well…), I had reached my goal and the marathon was over. And I won’t lie — I have the marathon blues. Everything was over too fast. Except when I was actually running the damn thing. Thought it would never end. It was so fucking hard. Naively,… Read more »

Marathon Diaries — Weekend Update

Days six and seven went according to plan — a short run on Saturday and then a longer (14k) run on Sunday. Saturday was actually supposed to be a rest day, but I couldn’t help myself — I don’t have that much time to train, so I feel I should take advantage of every chance I get. El Vikingo made sure he got his rest day, though, and even took an extra one… Read more »

Marathon Diaries: Day 4 — Running in Rain (not)

Day four of my Marathon training. The last three days have been so so. Haven’t managed to run as much as planned; one day I overslept, and another it was raining. And running in rain — not doing it. Don’t wanna get sick. El Vikingo says I’m ridiculous, but oddly, he always manages to oversleep when it’s raining. “I didn’t hear the alarm,” he says. Bullshit, I say. I probably would run in the… Read more »

Marathon Diaries: Day One

76 days left before I will stand on the starting line of the Mexico City Marathon, and 76 days to turn myself into a long distance runner. Challenge accepted. The only problem is I can only work out in the mornings. I COULD run in the afternoons, but I don’t want to. Because a) the pollution in the afternoon is horrendous, and b) there’s too much people and traffic. Plus, I’m… Read more »

Running out of breath in Nevado de Toluca

I’ve set three running challenges for the coming months. First a 10k in Paris (oh là là!) where I’ll try to improve my time last year. According to El Vikingo I have the advantage of training in high altitude, so I should have a good chance. Then I have a 21k and a marathon. In preparation I’m trying to change my diet. Well not much, but I’ve started drinking… Read more »

dirt in your face

Beauty rule #1. You will never go to bed without removing the dirt and makeup from your face. I’d lie if I said I always follow that rule. Yeah, I know going to bed with a dirty face is disgusting and that it will make you look old and clog your pores and give you breakouts. But sometimes I’m so tired I just don’t give a shit. Like when I fall asleep on… Read more »

MINÄ PERHONEN

I’ve been obsessed with the Nordic countries for more than a decade. My first obsession was with Sweden. I remember dreaming day and night about the day when I’d finally set foot in Stockholm and eat my first tunnbrödsrulle. I collected songs, pictures and all kinds of other stuff related to Sweden. I even tried learning Swedish online, which was a total failure (I couldn’t even get hello… Read more »

Hipster work light

El Vikingo says he remembers this lamp from his childhood. It hung on the open hood of his dad’s Volvo while his dad was leaning over the engine with a cigarette hanging from the side of his mouth mumbling things like “you little piece of shit, now what the fuck’s wrong with you?” and other words a man uses to show his appreciation for his car. It’s strange how time makes us see… Read more »
