Memories made of glass by El Andy

11 years ago over 1000 glass plate negatives were found hidden behind a wall in the attic of an old house in Debica, Poland. The negatives turned out to be portraits of locals taken by Stefania Gurdowa, a photographer who ran a photography workshop in Debica between 1921 and 1937.

When Stefania died in 1968 her apartment was cleaned out and most of her work was lost — except the glass plate negatives, protected behind the wall.

Wow, amazing discovery! I liked specially the pair of pictures of the guy kind of smiling and, beside, the man with the eyepatch. I think I’ve never seen an eyepatch for real!
