House of Dagmar had already showed their collection in Amsterdam and decided to just have a showroom in Stockholm. With Latin live music, mojitos, spanish champagne (Cava) and fruit brochettes the showroom felt more like an intimate party than a fashion event. Ari from Fashionisima, Andreas and I wondered if the showrooms are the best idea to showcase the designer´s collections or if they should stick to the traditional fashion shows. I wish I could say we came to an intelligent and insightful conclusion, but I’m afraid the free supply of mojitos came in the way of any deep thinking.

The special guests of Stockholm Fashion Week were there too. I´m talking about the fashion bloggers Susie Bubble, Bryan Boy, Andy Stylescrapbook, Rumi Fashiontoast, Phil Oh and Face Hunter, the fashion world’s favorite pets. It was interesting to see them in real life and even more interesting to listen to all the different opinions about them and about what they bring and if they should even be invited to runway shows at all. After what I saw at Stockholm I can´t stop wondering, is it really worth inviting bloggers to such a small fashion week, spending money on airplane tickets and hotels, and seating them on front row? Perhaps the front row should be reserved for buyers, editors and proper fashion reporters and the money could be better spent on supporting young designers.

Let´s see what happens next season. And after all, I´m a blogger too and I had my first front row seat at Stockholm Fashion week.

Si van a alguna semana de la moda asegúrense de que su acompañante no este interesado en la moda pero que tenga interés en la fotografía, alguien que se interese mas en los asistentes que en los modelos desfilando. In a sometimes surprising sometimes disappointing Stockholm Fashion week, Cheap Monday  definitely belonged to it’s highlights.

Cheap Monday first saw light in 2004 when four friends who ran a second hand store (called Weekday) decided to start designing their own brand of tight-fitting jeans. Their first batch of 800 pairs sold out quickly and the rest is history. Today Cheap Monday is spearheaded by the designer pair Örjan Andersson and Ann-Sofie Back, and is part of the H&M empire selling in over 30 countries world wide.

The collection they brought to the fashion week runway was inspired by, according to themselves, Latin denim fashions, Italian Diamonté, and LA celebrity taste. To put that into a more concrete picture, here’s what I saw: denim, minimalism, sheer fabrics, transparent shoes and knee-high boots, mustard colors, and glitter. And I liked it.

The only pieces that didn’t appeal to me were the aluminum-foil-looking men’s wear fabrics. Perhaps I’m too conservative, but they reminded me far too much of Kubrikck’s Space Odyssey. Not necessarily a bad thing for some and maybe the trend will take off anyway, but for me it’s a no go.

Overall it was a very enjoyable show with with more bells and whistles than any of the other brands. Unlike the others they had their very own tent down by the water with celebs like Frida Gustavsson and Kristen Owen walking the runway and popstar Robyn sitting on front frow, bringing a sense of glam and cool that the others were missing.

Cheap Monday, you did good. I’m looking forward to what Örjan and Ann Sofie will bring us in the future.

En la algunas veces sorprendente, algunas veces decepcionante Estocolmo Fashion week, Cheap Monday perteneció a lo mejor del evento.

Cheap Monday vió la luz en el 2004 cuando después del éxito de la tienda Weekday sus fundadores decidieron diseñar su propia marca de Jeans ajustados. Su primer lote de 800 pares se vendió como pan caliente y el resto es historia. Hoy Cheap Monday es lidereado por los diseñadores Örjan Andersson y Ann-Sofie Back, es parte del Imperio H&M y sus jeans son vendidos en 30 países alrededor del mundo.

La colección que mostrarón en Stockholm Fashion Week SS 2011 fue inspirada en la mezclilla latina, Italian Diamonté y el estilo de las celebridades de LA. Para crear una imágen mas concreta esto es lo que vi: Mezclilla, minimalismo, telas semitransparentes, zapatos y botas a la rodilla transparentes, colores mostaza y brillos. Me gustó.

Las únicas prendas que para nada llamaron mi atención fueron las que daban la impresión de estar hechas de papel aluminio. Tal vez soy conservadora, pero me recordaron demasiado a Kubrick y su Odisea del Espacio. No necesariamente es algo malo para algunos y tal vez se vuelva tendencia pero para mi es un no.

En conjunto fue un show verdaderamente placentero, mas atractivo que el de otras marcas. A diferencia de otros este fue en una terraza cerca del agua. Celebridades como Frida Gustavsson y Kristen Owen desfilando y la cantante Robyn sentada en primera fila le dieron el toque justo de glamour y onda que falto en otros desfiles.

Cheap Monday lo hizo bien. Atentos a las creaciones futuras de Örjan y Ann Sofie.
